if you haven’t heard, The Phoenix is ceasing publication. i feel sincerely heartbroken right now.

this exact week marks my two-year anniversary of working at the Phoenix. words cannot express how much i’ve learned and grown from being surrounded by the energy of the Phoenix over those past two…

I sincerely loved the Boston Phoenix and am so upset about this news. This publication has shown so much love to the bands I am in, has employed and launched the careers of some great writers and journalists, has covered so much state level politics that otherwise would go unnoticed, and gave tons of support and coverage to Free Press a few year’s back at the National Conference for Media Reform, the list goes on.

Alt-weeklies are the last ones out there to still put so much energy and time and resources into arts, culture, activism, etc. What happens when they are all gone? Especially the good ones?

Seasons : Places

I know people talk about the Pacific Northwest like its paradise but in March in New England we haven’t seen the sun for weeks and that is plenty enough of this grey weather bullshit.

This month is stress, dark, and difficult. Next month is the other side. It has to be better. Balance is practically a law of physics.

I spend a lot of nights out later than most of the people I know and love. Later than I can text them without waking them. Later than I can avoid talking to people at bars because I’m obviously busy on my phone.

It’s not a bad place but its an odd one. It’s one I know not everyone can relate to. It’s one where you get your leg smashed into because there’s a spontaneous pit and you just kinda have to roll with it. It’s one where you don’t even really drink anymore because you’re just tired. You’re still grateful, but you are tired.

I end up in weird places where there’s a lot of screaming going on. Maybe for the wrong reasons. But such is all we know.
